  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup whole milk (240ml), warmed to about 110°F (43°C)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (115g), melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (240g)
  • 4 tablespoons milk (60ml)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let it sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, nutmeg, and salt. Make a well in the center and add eggs, melted butter, and yeast mixture. Mix until combined.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  4. Roll out risen dough to about ½ inch thick on a floured surface. Cut into doughnut shapes with a round cutter and remove centers.
  5. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry doughnuts for about 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown; drain on paper towels.
  6. Prepare glaze by mixing powdered sugar with milk until smooth. Dip warm doughnuts into glaze and set on wire racks.
