- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1 cup granulated sugar (for frosting)
- 1/2 cup butter (for frosting)
- 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350F and grease two 9-inch cake pans.
- Cream butter and sugar until fluffy, then beat in eggs one at a time.
- Sift flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt together.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture.
- Divide batter between pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
- In a saucepan, simmer butter, sugar, and evaporated milk until thickened.
- Stir in coconut and pecans; remove from heat and cool.
- Layer cake with frosting and top with the remaining coconut pecan mixture.
