Description

Golden-brown Belgian waffles with deep pockets, topped with a warm, caramelized cinnamon apple compote. A perfect blend of crunch and sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
  • 3 tablespoons butter (for apples)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a large mixing bowl until combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and stir in the milk and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and fold together until just combined; do not overmix.
  4. Preheat waffle iron and grease lightly. Pour batter in and cook until steam stops escaping and waffles are golden brown.
  5. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 3 tablespoons of butter. Add diced apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  6. Sauté apples for 5-8 minutes until tender and the liquid has thickened into a syrup.
  7. Serve hot waffles topped with a generous scoop of warm cinnamon apples.
